Wonderful Karnataka Road Trip in 2021 as you know Karnataka is a land filled in abundance with different flora and fauna, historical monuments taking us back in time, the wonderful architecture of temples and buildings, waterfalls, rivers, beaches and so much more. We here at Plan The Unplanned are striving to give you a full and raw experience of this beautiful State. 

We start from Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka which is also called the Garden City as well as the Silicon city of India. Over the seven days, we will take you through the royal city of Mysore, one of the largest Tibetan settlements in India, Coorg which is the Scotland of India, beaches of Mangalore, the rainforests of Agumbe, and the tropical evergreen forests of Kudremukh. Over the seven days, you will experience different types of cultures.

Things to Carry

  • Trekking shoes: Carry waterproof trekking shoes with good grip and ankle support. Do not carry sports shoes.
  • Three layers of warm clothes: Carry two or three-layer jackets, fleece jackets and a padded jacket.
  • Two/Three trek pants: Carry light cotton trek pants. Denim/jeans and shorts are not suitable for trekking.
  • Three t-shirts (collared/dry-fit): Full sleeved t-shirts that prevent sunburns on the neck and arms. Carry one or two dry-fit t-shirts.
  • Thermals: Carry thermals (top and bottom).
  • Sunglasses: Sunglasses are mandatory. There will be a lot of snow on the trek and can cause snow blindness.
  • Cap: At high altitude, the sun is extra harsh so carry a cap to protect yourself.
  • Waterproof hand gloves: Carry waterproof gloves and avoid woollen gloves as they will get wet if you touch snow.
  • Socks (3-4 pairs) and a pair of woollen socks: Apart from two sports socks, you can take a pair of woollen socks for the night.
  • Headlamp/LED torch: Mandatory
  • Raincoat/Ponchos: At high altitudes, snowfall and rain are quite common and it’s mandatory to carry a poncho so that you don’t get wet. The trek will continue as planned even during rainfall. Your poncho should protect you from the rain. Carry a backpack cover for extra protection from rain for your belongings.
  • Documents – ID (Driver’s License, AADHAR Card, Voter ID:: Passport and Visa copy for Foreign Nationals)
  • Day Pack ( Small Bag of 10 litres to carry necessary stuff for the day )


Karnataka Road Trip - A Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Hampi exploration

Gather around at the respective pickup points to give our trip a kickstart!
At a distance of 150kms from Bangalore is the city of Mysore which was the capital of the Wodeyar Dynasty. With its roots dated back to the British Empire of India when it was one of the three large Princely states, Mysore is a fusion of dazzling Rich royal culture, Magnificent monuments and buildings, the traditional Mysuru Dasara, the exceptional silk sarees and much more. We will head over to the Mysore Palace which is also known as Amba Vilas Palace, the residence of the Wodeyar Maharaja’s family. The palace is a mixture of the Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic styles of Architecture. As we explore the palace we will see the three-storied structure in its full grandeur.

On the banks of the river, Kaveri is a group of temples called the Somanthpura temples.  Built-in the Hoysala architectural style, this place is picturesque and a perfect location to get some pictures! 

Next, we will head over to the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam aka KRS Dam.The conjunction to three rivers, this Dam was built by KrishnaRaja Wodeyar IV of Mysore. The beauty of this dam is that it is surrounded by a beautiful garden filled with colorful and illuminated gardens, musical fountains, and water bodies. Spend the evening here by taking a stroll in the different colors of the garden.

After a day filled with some of Mysuru’s famous places retire to the hotel at night and get a goodnight’s sleep.

Day 2: Explore Badami and Pattadakal

Today we explore the Tibetan culture at the Namdroling Monastery. The tiny colony which is enclosed in a calm and spiritual ambiance is one of the largest Tibetan settlements in India. The major attraction of this place is the forty-five feet tall Buddha statues, the colorful walls of the temples which are decorated with beautiful paintings depicting Tibetan Buddhist mythology. 

We further head towards Suntikoppa to carry forward the zen vibes into nature. Known for its huge coffee and spice plantations, it provides a refreshing environment for all nature lovers. We will do a small hike to explore the plantations and head back to Coorg where we will be resting for the night.

Day 3: Explore Kali backwaters and Reach kumta

For all the beach lovers out there, today is your day. Get ready to experience, the blanket of sand, the sound of the waves, the fishing net, and the smell of fish as we head over to the coastal town of Mangalore which is three hours away from Coorg. Located in between the Arabian sea and the Western Ghats, it’s the state’s only city to have all four kinds of transport. 

The St. Aloysius Chapel was built by the Italian Jesuit Antonio Moscheni back in 1884. It has an amazing architecture, beautiful ceiling, fresco, oil paintings and is a perfect spot for some tranquillity.  After visiting the Chapel we will head over to explore the sandy coconut lined beached of Mangalore. We will spend the evening learning about and watching the gracious traditional dance form developed in the Dakshina Kannada, The Yakshagana. It is noted for its music, colorful costumes, vigorous dance moments, subtle expressions, and extempore dialogues. 

We will retire for the night after dinner.

Day 4: Gokarna exploration and Beach trek

We wake up early freshen up, have breakfast, and then head out to explore the St. Mary’s Island and Malpe beach.  The Coconut Island, North Island, Darya Bahadurgarh Island and the South Island interconnect to form the St. Mary’s island. We reach the Islands by takings a ferry ride from the Malpe jetty. Spend till afternoon exploring the Island and the beach after which we head over to Agumbe.

We take a pit stop to watch the sunset at the Kodi Bengre – Delta point where the sea meets the river.  We will continue our journey to Agumbe after the sunset. 

Agumbe also is known as the “Cherapunji of the South” is a small village in the Shimoga district in the Malnad region of Karnataka. It served as a setting for the famous fictional series  Malgudi days. We will reach Agumbe by dinner time, so fill up your tummies and get some sleep once we reach.

Day 5:Explore Kumta and reach Sharavathi Backwaters

Wake up early in the morning to catch the sunrise. Agumbe is known for its beautiful sunrise and sunsets. We head over to the Kundadri hills. With a view of a blanket of clouds and the forests below watch the sunrise and get energized for the day. Next up we visit the Kudlu Theertha falls where one can drench under the falls. Head over to the world-famous sunset point to catch the sunset.  Head back to the homestay for the night.

Day 6: Jog falls, Ancient temples of Ikkeri and Keladi

 Gear up and get ready to travel to our last destination, Kudremukh. The pristine beauty and exquisite biodiversity of this place is due to the reserve of tropical wet evergreen forests. The Kudremukh National Park is jeweled with natural beauty, high rising peaks studded with colorful flora and fauna to picturesque trekking routes overseeing verdant grasslands. 

After visiting the Kudrehmukh National Park, we shall head over to the homestay to freshen up and change. We will spend the day exploring the hanging bridge and the Elaneeru falls after which we will come back and rest at the homestay.

Day 7 : (Back to Bangalore)

 It’s the last day of the trip and we are headed back to the Garden city of Bangalore. On the way back we will stop at Belur/Halebeedu. Belur and Halebeedu are situated in the Hassan district and are known for the Hoysala architectural temples. If you observe the walls of the temples closely you will see multiple stories scripture out. 

We continue further on our journey back to Bangalore and will reach the city by nightfall.

The interesting thing about traveling alone is that you get to meet new people from  diverse backgrounds, and towards the end you are no longer strangers. Is it safe for Women/Girls?

Safety and security is our priority at all times. Hence it is absolutely safe for women/girls to join us on our treks and travels. Our trek leaders accompany the team at all times, and our campsites are secured and safe for accomodation. We also have female trek leaders who accompany on most of our treks.


What will be the group size?

Usually, we take maximum of 15-18 people in one group. We believe bigger groups have less fun and less coordination so that’s why we prefer smaller groups.

We need at least 4 people to operate our fixed departure tours/treks.

What is cancellation policy?

Here’s the cancellation policy for Himalayan Treks/Backpacking Trips/Road Trips

  • If you cancel before 30 days – 90% of amount will be refunded
  • If you cancel between 20 -30 days – 75% % of amount will be refunded
  • If you cancel between 15-19 days – 50%  will be refunded
  • If you cancel between 7-14 days – 25 % amount will be refunded
  • If you cancel between 0- 7 days before the departure date – No amount would be refunded.

Note: For All The Above Refund Cases Transaction Fees/Internet Handling Charges will be dedcuted from the overall amount and balance amount shall be refunded. You can transfer your ticket to anyone so that you could save your hard earned money
