About The Trip

You sit in your office, with your glazing over the computer screen, and suddenly the screensaver comes to life. The image of snow-clad mountains instantly appears, and you are transported to another world.

However, this world disappears the moment you touch the system.

But what if we told you that we at Plan The Unplanned can actually make that transport happen?

Sign up for our Dayara Bugyal trek and you will get to see all those screensaver, fairytale like places for real!

What makes this trek so special and so surreal is that every season has something new and different to offer. Winters will give you meadows covered in snow, while spring offers a myriad shades of the rainbow come alive. From fragrant flowers to mesmerising butterflies, you will see it all here.

If you are willing to explore one of the lesser-known places in Garwhal, then the Dayara Bugyal trek package would be a superb choice for you.

Trek Highlights

Did you know that Garhwali means “Alpine Pasture” or “High Altitude Meadow”? This is perhaps one of the easier treks, which means that if you have been wanting to try a Himalayan trek, this might be a good way to get your feet wet! Here’s what you can expect:

  • You will first travel from Delhi to Dehradun and then to Raithal, which is the starting point of the trek
  • Journey along serene forests and the river Bhagirathi will keep you company
  • Acclimatise and stay overnight at Raithal
  • The first part of the trek takes you through forests of oak, maple and rhododendron to the Chelapada campsite
  • At the Gui Thatch, you will get to see shepherd huts as well as igloo-shaped structures
  • Catch stunning views of the entire Gangotri range, including Shrikanth, and Gangotri I, II and III
  • Cross gurgling streams and sights of other important peaks like Jaonli and Bandarpoonch
  • And then we head to the ultimate destination - Dayara Bugyal – come during summers and a carpet of yellow, white and violet flowers will await you
  • As you head back to Raithal village, you will have a rucksack full of memories and a camera filled with impeccable images

In case you are wondering about the best time for Dayara Bugyal trek, well, we say right now! Our trek leaders and our tribe are waiting for you on our next adventure!

The day starts with a filling and indulging breakfast then we go on a ravishing trek uphill. It is a smooth, smooth trail through the claws of oak, and the tangle of maple trees, and the red rhododendrons and finally along the shoulder of an outwardly charming rock to Gui Thatch--a quiet meadow lost down in the woods.

The opening intro to Gui provides a mix of clearings with grass- the forest tracks. Having rested a little at Gui we proceed onwards to Gui Thatch, where are shepherd huts (Chhanis), one side of the scene, and the igloo-like shelters of the Forest Department, the rest - each worthy of a place in the story-book landscape.

It is here that you will be treated to an extravagant landscape of the Gangotri range- with Shrikanth face on, Gangotri I, II, III and the Jaonli peak in front of you. Turn to your left and in the distance you would see the larger than life Bandarpoonch.

We slowly climb up some more forested land after enjoying the scenes. On the route, refreshing stream points are found seasonally along the way to take photos.

By the afternoon we have arrived at the Chelapada campsite and a warm lunch is ready. We will go and take an acclimatization walk in the evening and enjoy snacks and company around the open sky.

Close the day with a heartfelt meal and enter into your tents to find the serenity of the mountains.

Details

Today is the spotlight of your journey-the day we have all been looking forward to.

The next day we leave Chelapada and head toward Dayara Bugyal, one of the most beautiful alpine meadows in India, after a healthy breakfast. The path creeps through rustling woods and slowly reveals a mind-boggling scenery of an undulating plain of grass.

As you clear the tree line, you are welcomed into Dayara Bugyal, like you walked into a fantasia, a myriad tapestry of green or white, with the altering seasons. In the time between May and June, the meadow is peppered with a wilderness of yellow, violet, and white wildflowers. During the wintertime, the same scenery becomes a snow-covered dream-world and an ideal place to do some snow trekking, or have a postcard view.

We will stop to have a picnic lunch with a panoramic view in Dayara Viewpoint, that follows an incredible view of the mighty peak of the Himalayas and the surrounding undisturbed wilderness with its aura of unlimited peace. One has time to visit, think, get pictures, and just go lay down and breathe in the alpine air.

Following an inspiring afternoon we would all come down to Chelapada by the same scenic pathway.

By the time you are back, take a shower and rest. As a finishing touch to the day, a hot dinner will be provided to send a warm note.
