About The Trip

It doesn’t matter if you believe in a higher power or not; there must be days in your life when you feel that there is a higher power that is just not by your side. There is too much stress at work and there are deadlines that you are just not able to meet and you just want to escape it all.

Some might book an escape room experience for the thrill of it, but those in the know will come to Plan The Unplanned and book a trip to the ‘Valley of Gods’.

Har ki Dun is said to be one of the oldest Himalayan trekking trails and definitely one of the most gorgeous! From snow-clad mountain peaks to all shades of green, you will get to experience it all. It is said that the Pandavas walked into heaven from this region and that this region belonged to Duryodhana. As a matter of fact, there is even a temple in the region, devoted to the Kauravas.

What makes the Har Ki Dun trek super special is the riverside campsite – as you walk through the trails, watch the sunrises and sunsets and take in the myths and legends, you will feel your stress being washed away.

Trek Highlights

Here is an opportunity to experience the land of the gods, the major water source for the Yamuna River system and a canvas of landscapes that look and feel surreal. Given that this is a moderate trek, even beginners can attempt it and here is what you can expect:

  • Once you reach Dehradun, we will drive you towards Sankri village via a scenic route
  • At the village, we will give you a day of leisure and homely comfort via a charming homestay
  • On the first day of the trek, we head towards Taluka, a quaint hamlet with rustic homes
  • From there, we walk through thick forests, raging waterfalls and the scents that will make you swoon
  •  As the sun gets ready to bid farewell to the day, we will reach and rest at our campsite for the night
  • Traversing through Osla village along Supin river, we reach Kalkatiyadhar ridge and your first sight of Har Ki Dun comes to you
  • Wake up to the sights of the spectacular Swargarohini peaks and spend another day trekking through green meadows and gushing waterfalls
  • At the Har ki Dun valley, take the time to marvel at the Black and Swargarohini peaks
  • Another day, another trek to the Puani Garaat campsite, which takes you through forests of pine and deodar

Towards the end of the Har Ki Dun trek itinerary, we promise you that you will not want to go home, because you will have made brand new friends and some amazing memories. But even if this trek comes to an end, we assure you that Plan The Unplanned has plenty more to offer!

Detail Itinerary

Details

The group would meet up at Dehradun Railway Station by 6:30am. We also advise that you should get to Dehradun one day early so as to have an early start.

Today will be a long drive but a very scenic one that will take you through some of the most beautiful mountain roads, small hill towns and through the winding path of rivers. We will go to Sankri, a small Himalayan hamlet and the starting point of our trek.

We will arrive at Sankri and then get into our homestay. The remainder of the day is free to rest or tour the village, enjoy the scenery or attend nearby viewpoints.

At the end of the day, we will have a comfy meal and stay overnight at Sankri.

Note: The pickup point is provisional and it would be most probably Dehradun Railway Station.

Details

We will eat an early breakfast, and then drive to Taluka, which is a small hamlet, hidden in the hills, with some few rustic cottages - this being the official commencement of our trek.

Starting off, we will make our trek to Puani Garaat starting off at Taluka. It is the first day of walking, so we will keep it easy, acclimatising and enjoying the natural scenery around. This route runs through the thickly wooded areas that are rich with chestnut, chinar and walnut trees with the waterfalls rushing parallel and the singing of birds in the cool refreshing air.

The scenes are stunning right off the truck - green hills, fog shrouded forest, that distinctive mountain allure of the foothills of the Himalaya range.

As the day closes we will arrive at our camp at Puani Garaat right in time to witness the sunset, as it paints the valley gold in color. Once camp is set up then it is time to sit back, have a good chat and a healthy dinner with your fellow trekkers and then fall asleep underneath the stars.

Details

We will have a good night's sleep and in the morning, we shall have a refreshing cup of tea and a good breakfast after which we shall set off on our next leg of journey to the Har Ki Dun Valley.

We crossed the picturesque village of Osla today, with its wooden houses and the hospitable local people. We will then pass a beautiful bridge over the Supin River, and then we will continue on the path, which starts a steady upward climb slowly revealing the beauty of the valley.

After walking to the point called Kalkatiyadhar, a ridge point on the path, be prepared to be treated with your first sensation of the immensely charming sight of Har Ki Dun Valley, which is surely worth all the struggle.

Starting here the trail cuts across extensive verdant alpine meadows with here and there a glimpse of a snow-covered summit and livestock. We will finally get to our camp site at Kalkatiyadhar where nature lies in its untainted form.

After an eventful day, spend time in camp and have a nice well-earned meal and a quiet night under the stars.

Details

When you wake up in the morning and just that view of the breathtaking Swargarohini mountains all above you all, it is something that is captured in the memory. A vigorous breakfast in the magnificent Himalayas will follow and then we will head upwards to the famous Har Ki dun Valley.

It is a hike that goes through beautiful alpine meadows, with wildflowers and with lush forests on the side of the road. On the way, you are accompanied by cascading waterfalls and glistening mountain streams giving a soundtrack of serenity.

When you reach the Har Ki Dun peak you should expect the 360 degree views of the black peak and Swargarohini massif, a beautiful reward to your ascent. Relax in silence, photograph and inhale all the fresh mountain air.

Once we have had some good time up on the top we start our way down to Kalkatiyadhar campsite.

An early dinner will be passed off with a comfortable camp in a tent under the starlit sky.

Details

We start our downhill ascent to the Puani Garaat campsite after a warm cup of tea in the morning. The path is steeply descending in the dense coniferous forests, and everything is full of the smell of pine and sounds of nature.

On our onward voyage, we come to the little town of Seema, which is built on the bank of Supin River. On the other side of the river, you will be able to glimpse at the village of Osla which is a lovely small village and is surrounded with tradition and intrigue.

After we arrive at Puani Garaat you have the whole day before you--you may rest by the river-side, lounge in the meadows, or just enjoy the quiet mountain atmosphere.

Dinner will be early and then an overnight stay at the campsite.

Details

Having our hearty morning breakfast and a refreshing cup of morning tea we soak the remaining moments of a calm, peaceful Himalayan environment. Fresh and loaded with memories, we are going to walk back the same beautiful trail to Taluka.

Today, you can feel some particular energy, because it is the last part of our journey, and probably you will be filled with joy and accomplishment mixed with nostalgia as the way leads you through forests, waterways, and old mountainous landscapes.

We will then get into our cars and drive a fairly short distance to Sankri where we started the journey. Once you have checked into the homestay the evening is at leisure as you prepare to relax and reminisce with your fellow trekkers.

Dinner will be provided with a comfortable stay overnight at Sankri.

Details

We will have a warm breakfast and look one last time at the mountains where we spent so many days. After all that, we will embark on a ride back to Sankri and then Dehradun. The scenic drive will be filled with silent contemplation, laughing with each other and stories about the journey which united us together.

We shall reach Dehradun by evening and end our beautiful adventure in Dehradun. Here the group splits up but not before sharing the memories that they had made in the process.
