About The Trip

Every now and then, life gets a little too much! The assignments start to feel too long, meetings seem mind-numbing and your everyday routines feel mundane.

This is your sign to take a break! A break = fun, adventure, travel, and food.

Plan The Unplanned brings for you a trip that takes you to the Princess of the Hills – Kodaikanal!

But instead of taking you to all the typical tourist spots, we will show you a side of Kodai that you might not have even known about. Recharge at a stunning campsite, a few miles outside of the heart of the city and take back memories of fairytale-like landscapes, crystal clear water bodies and air that is clean and crisp.

Yes, this is a trek, but we like to refer to this as a Kodaikanal trekking and camping trip for those who want a slower pace to their weekend.

Come join our tribe and take a trek with Plan The Unplanned!

Trek highlights

Search online and you might find plenty of Kodaikanal trekking packages, but you won’t find anything like ours! There is something for everyone on this trip – magic, adventure, nature, new experiences, fun people and so much more! We can give you a sneak peek into what’s in store for you:

  • The adventure begins as soon as you reach Kodaikanal – hike up to reach the camp
  • Let your senses revel in the scents of the Spice Valley
  • Allow your body and mind to drift away at the camp’s neighbourhood waterfall
  • Forge new bonds over bonfire, music and fun at the camp
  • Spend some time gazing at a clear sky and the stars that adorn it
  • Hike up to Dolphin’s Nose and Echo Rock and return via Vattakanal Falls
  • Enjoy meals at adorable little cafes that dot the town

When you get back to Bangalore, we are quietly confident that you will already be thinking about the next trip like this you might take. Solo traveller, first time trekker, a woman on her own – no matter which category you fall in, the Plan The Unplanned tribe will be waiting to take you on the next adventure!

Your journey begins at Bengaluru when you are lost in the star-studded sky, with the city lights fading in the background. With excitement in the air, we begin with a few ice-breaking sessions - the best way to get to know your fellow trekkers and unwind from the long weekday stress. As the night lingers on, it’s best to settle down and fall into a short slumber - allowing your bodies and minds to get that much needed rest. Details

The first day is when the real adventure begins, the road ends and the trail beckons.

We bid adieu to the hustles and bustles of the city and as we gradually ascend the grounds, we welcome the fresh mountain air and views upside. Each step makes you love the scenic hilltop campsite more, and at the site a well-deserved breakfast awaits to restore your inner soul.

Filled with food and a stiffened back pack, we plunge further into Spice Valley, to a gem that is high up in the Western Ghats. The 2440 meter peak is our target, the viewpoint that pays off every drop of sweat with breathtaking scenery that runs endlessly into the horizon. The view is just as rewarding as the hike, a hiking trail that is filled with mystical fog, fragrant fields, and untrodden nature.

It is now time to relax after a successful, but late celebratory lunch back in the camp. Only 400 meters further there is a secret waterfall that calls. Here and there, rest your aching body to the cold effects of nature, and listen to how the falls are singing to you this lullaby.

With dusk falling, snacks such as high tea make this little haven warm and cosy. Provided that weather permits, we will sit on burning embers chatting by a fire in the fresh air listening to the stars.

The day is finished with a good dinner, the time of reflection, laughing, and calmness. And in the starlit Kodai sky go back to your tent and fall into peaceful sleep - your soul a little fuller, your heart already awaiting day 2.

Details

The Kodai sun welcomes you to its golden glow as the hills celebrate the dawn with the fresh breeze of the morning and the smell of a freshly cooked breakfast. It is a new day and the mountains have not yet finished surprising with their magic.

Dress yourself in boots, lace them up and fasten the straps--we are going to climb to Dolphin Nose, a famous lookout vantage point where you get uplifting and heart-thumping glimpses of the valley opening out in unending vistas. Misty trails will take you to that very edge of the cliff, and you will feel that you are on the edge of the world.

Having completed the summit and with our spirits uplifted, we will walk down to town where we savor a delicious meal at a local cafe in Kodaikanal, the one that you would want to take your time to savor with its lovely atmosphere and local fare.

But the day is not over. We visit the calm waters of the Vattakanal falls before we move on our way out of this mountain retreat. Just dip your feet or jump in - the crystal clear cascade gives the best last minute cool off prior to the trip homeward.

With the sun going down, we put away our memories and head back to Bengaluru taking one last stop to have dinner on the way. You will arrive early on Monday morning fatigued, but full to the brim with tales, giggles, and the sweet solace of Kodai in your hearts.
