Hello Ladakh, welcome to Leh, the jewel in Ladakh! Descend your flight to land in Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport and savour this first view of the rugged mountains and clean mountain air that makes this region magical.

As you arrive, you will be taken to the hotel or homestay. Keep low today--Leh is at a great elevation, and you must give your system time to acclimatise. Drink lots of water and stay out of heavy exercises.

In the afternoon meet up with your trip leader, so you are briefed about the day ahead and have a good laugh as we await you in an icebreaking activity to familiarise with each other.

This day is rest related, friendship related, and preparation related. Relax to the calm atmosphere of Leh, have some warm butter tea, perhaps, and prepare to the adventures that await you.

Fill your stomach with a good breakfast and prepare to visit the cultural and natural treasures which are hidden in Leh and among the surrounding areas.

We would start with Sangam point which is a beautiful meeting of the Zanskar River and the Indus River. Behold water that is two different colors, the emerald green and the muddy brown, and these colors combine to create a surrealistic view. During winter, the river turns to what is known as the infamous Frozen River, an equivalent of the renowned Chadar Trek.

Then we visit the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a peaceful spiritual place which is constructed in honor of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Experience the relaxing vibes of this quiet place in between the rough mountains.

Gear up to have an eye opening adventure at Magnetic Hill where all vehicles defy the law of gravity. Park your car and leave it in neutral and watch your car move uphill by itself. Is it science or magic? You decide!

Then we will honour the Hall of Fame, a touching war memorial, which is given by the Indian Army, when soldiers served under the worst conditions in the world.

Towards the end of the day, we shall have a look at the famous Shanti Stupa, which is sitting on top of a hill overlooking incredible views of the Leh town and the Himalaya mountains. The bright white dome, the serene nature, and the golden hour scenery make it the most appropriate end to your day.

Retrace your steps back to your hotel at Leh where you can have a hot dinner and then a good night's sleep.

Details

We have a hearty breakfast and then buckle up to the thrilling ride to the magical Nubra Valley- considered as the sky-like desert of Ladakh.

Our trail passes through a mythic road called Khardung La Pass, which is considered as one of the highest motorable roads in the world and it is 5359 feet (17,582 ft) high. Here we shall halt awhile, and take a brief meal of a sort, and get a drink, too, of the bleak wild beauty of the snowy Himalayan mountains, which tower all around you. Here is something to remember, read your cameras.

Going down the high pass, the scene starts changing drastically and as we get closer to Nubra, the scene comes out as a surreal landscape of golden sand dunes, green riverbeds and dramatic outline of the rocks.

Once we get to Nubra we will register and get settled in the campsite located in the valley. We will take it easy after a warm dinner under the stars.

However, in case you are looking forward to more, you can have optional activities in the evening (at your own cost):

  • Shop in Leh and then ride on iconic Double-Hump Bactrian Camels through Hunder dunes.
  • Get an adrenaline rush by riding in rugged terrain with an ATV.

There are no rules, no schedules to keep, it all depends on you, how you want to spend your time there, read a book, smoke, just relax and watch the sun go down and dress the desert in gold.

Then, having breakfast, we say goodbye to the golden sands of the Nubra Valley and continue our picturesque journey up to one of the most recognizable gems of Ladakh, the Pangong Tso.

During the journey, we will pay a visit to the grand Diskit Monastery where a huge 100 foot Buddha statue is located to guide the whole valley up. Here is time to meditate and have a panoramic view of the lush green paddy field and not to forget blessings to the future journey.

The route departs Diskit to drive through some of the most spectacular sceneries that include remote mountain passes, rugged up valleys and glittering streams to make us reach the stunning water body Quen Pangong lake made popular by Three Idiots, a Bollywood film.

As we get there, expect to get dazzled by the unreal beauty of the lake of chilled shades of turquoise and blue bordering on barren brown mountains like in a dream.

We will make our check-in to our lakeside campsite and that is the rest of the evening left to you to relax. See the sun set Lake aflame with fire, or just look at the stars in the millions flashing overhead-this is your reward.

We will have dinner at the campsite, after which we will have a comfortable stay at the Pangong Tso.

We will be having an extraordinary morning by Pangong Lake where we can have breakfast by the side of nature, which is one of the greatest masterpieces. Then we will be going back to Leh. Our path goes past the mighty Chang La pass which is one of the highest motorable roads anywhere in the world. You should expect some breath-taking scenery - and even a bit of snow, depending on the time of the year.

During the descent we are going to visit some culturally important sights in Ladakh:

  1. Shey palace: It was the summer palace of Ladakh and the ancient and great palace which has the great statue of 12 meters of Buddha gold gilded which is really an amazing mirage to see and it stands there as a token of peace.
  2. Thiksey Monastery: Hailed as the largest monastery in central Ladakh, this monastery is also called Mini Potala because it is more or less similar to Potala palace in Lhasa. It contains a spectacular Maitreya Buddha and there are panoramic views over the Indus Valley. Slow down here this is where you get an insight into the spiritual soul of Ladakh.

We will get to Leh and finish our check-in at the hotel in the evening. The most relaxing thing to do is all that after spending a rich day, have a nice dinner.

When we are done with another Ladakhi breakfast, we shall check out of our hotel and proceed to Leh Airport where it is now the time to bid farewell and fly back to our cities.

In the last few days we have seen some of the best the loftiest of Ladakh:

It goes through the mysticism of Sangam, and Magnetic Hill up to the tranquility of Shanti Stupa, the pride of The Hall of Fame and the spiritual places of Gurudwara Pathar Sahib.

We have traversed the grandeur of Khardung La, Pertaken the Nubra Valley, temples of Diskit Monastery and enchanted the canvas blue of Pangong Tso.

This was an adventure not to forget as it was the cultural richness of Shey Palace and Thiksey Monastery added to the thrill of Chang La Pass.

We also understand that saying goodbye is not easy- however every goodbye is the first step of another story. It may feel like these six days were over in a minute, however, memories, laughs, and friendships you will meet will be the ones you will never forget.
