About The Trip

When it comes to one-day treks near Bangalore, you will seldom hear the name of the Rayakottai Fort Hill trek. Just 90 km from Bangalore, this Rayakottai Fort Hill trek in Krishagiri district is a culmination of climbing stairs, walking on a normal path, visiting temples, exploring caves, and feeling responsible. It is declared a protected monument by the Archeological Survey of India. Gamble on this trek for a one-day adventure near Bengaluru since it is offbeat and gives incredible views with a throwback to history.

It is said that the fort was initially built by Jagadeva Raya, a Palegara of Channapatna town in Ramanagara district, thus the name ‘Raya Kottai’. Later, Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan ruled this fort in the 18th century. The fort was captured by Major Gowdie during the Third Anglo-Mysore War in 1791. According to the Treaty of Srirangapatna, this fort came into the hands of the British.

It’s meant for people who appreciate raw nature, history buffs, photographers and trekkers. Being an easy trek, it is equally suitable for beginners and experts. The best part is the trek is a quick getaway from Bangalore, so you can just Plan the Unplanned. Check out the complete itinerary here:

Details

We will begin from Bangalore early in the morning. After the brief introductory session, prepare to trek the offbeat routes of the Rayakottai Fort trek in Tamil Nadu. Midway, we will have breakfast at 7.30 am as there is no breakfast joint near the trekking location.

We will shortly begin the trek upon reaching the base at 9.30 am. The way to the top starts with a sweet warmup of the body. You will have to climb some 300 well-carved stairs. After about 20 minutes of ascending, you will come across Venkateshwara Swami temple on your left. We will stop here before entering another section of the trail, i.e., boulders.

From here, the rocky terrain begins. We will be climbing bouldering rocks. After some time, we are greeted by the fort’s entrance. Continuing the hike from here for about 20 minutes brings us to a natural pond on the left side. If you feel like it, you can spend some time here.

There are some chambers for storage inside the fort. Although the fort is dilapidated, these glimpses of the past give us a clue of history. We will then climb the fort. Here, you can rest and click pictures.

In the end, as we reach the peak, huge open area gives us a 360 degree view of Rayakottai town. Unlike other treks, there is no temple at the top. Instead, huge deepam is kept.

If you are going in the Spring season, you will find a lot of flowers and greenery.

We will reach the peak by 11 am. Depending on the group, we will spend some time here or start the descent. It will take a little time to reach the base. From here, we will get into the vehicle, play games midway and stop for lunch at around 2.30 pm.

Then, continuing the journey, we will reach Bangalore by 5 pm. After the incredible time you spend amidst nature and friendships, it would be difficult to part. We would love to see you againCheck out our other itineraries and ring us soon.
