It’s time to leave the road and take the trails toward rejuvenation with the ultimate beauty of Kunti Betta. Trek up the hill and witness a sunrise that will renew the life in you. Though leaving the road is not that easy here’s just a small route to enter the trails, a 130 km drive on the Mysore road towards Mandya and then a right turn, past sugar cane plantations with the characteristic smell of jaggery plants, will take you to Pandavapura. The Pandavas are said to have ended their 14-year long exile here, hence the name Pandavapura. With its steep rock faces and a stone pillar on its summit, Kunti Betta (950 m) is hard not to notice from here. A short drive from Pandavapura to the temple at the base, and then a stair climb and you are on the trail to Kunti Betta.
With its challenging yet interesting trails, naturally sheltered summit and close proximity to the Thonnur lake (you can trek down to the lake for a dip), Kunti Betta is an excellent trek for both the absolute novice* hoping to take up serious trekking, as well as for the seasoned trekker wanting to do a more laid back trek over the weekend.

A bad knee and a long gap after having forced the body to get out of its comfort zone , I was skeptic about doing the Kunti Betta sunrise trek / solo trip . But it turned out to be a great experience . Joined by a friendly group of trekkers I dint feel like I was on a solo trip . The trek leads Vaibhav and Jaidev gave the confidence that I am under the guidance of experienced trekkers . Absolute task masters were they , making explore their potential by prodding and pushing them to cross difficult trails including leaps and jumps across rocks.
The trek leads made possible things that people otherwise would have shunned to do!! Thanks to the stories of their experiences that kept us engaged and brought us closer ! An otherwise boring , sloppy weekend transformed into a great adventurous memorable one !!!
I recently travelled to Kunti Betta with Plan the Unplanned as a solo woman traveler. It was an amazing experience of weekend getaway. We explored the mountains surrounded by natural beauty. Trek lead Devanshi and team were very supportive in terms of arranging food and making us climb the hill. It was a very hot day and I felt it will be difficult to climb but the driving spirit of the trek lead Devanshi and team made it possible to reach the peak. We played lots of games and met new people.
Thank you Plan the unplanned for a memorable trip. ❤️
