A celebration of Womanhood – Women only trek to Makalidurga hill

Makalidurga Trek - Bangalore- Plan The Unplanned
On a Sunday morning, which would’ve otherwise been spent doing regular chores at home like taking care of the family or simply relaxing after a long week at work, 15 women set out to trek the Makalidurga Hill with Plan The Unplanned.

Being our 99th trek (just one before we kick our shoes in the air and celebrate the century!) this one was extremely special due to the adventurous women who tagged along and made it worthwhile. These beautiful women from different age groups, cultures, professions and walks of life conquered the peak together – fearlessly celebrating the spirit of adventure and womanhood.

Some of them were students who wanted a pause from their college life, some working women looking forward to a weekend escape from the concrete jungle of corporate spaces, some homemakers who wished to give themselves a day off from their responsibilities towards kids and husbands.

They created an infectious atmosphere of laughter, frolic, and fun right from the time they stepped on the bus and started their journey from Bangalore.

Bonding with each other, sharing their personal experiences over fruitful conversations and playing fun icebreaker games, they merged slowly from an individual to a team. On reaching the base of the hill, a few nervous, a few scared but all of them equally excited and filled with a zeal started the trek to the summit.

The climb wasn’t easy but together they were stronger, stopping whenever someone needed to breathe or take rest, helping each other out with motivation and energies, cheering for each other, they made it to the top.

The place they trekked also held a very special significance since “Makalidurga” or ” Maa Kaali Durga” is considered the most ferocious Indian Goddess who wiped out the evil demons from Earth. Maa kaali is fearless, independent and strong just like the women who joined us, the modern Indian women who have no limits on their ambitions, seize all opportunities and maintain their gentle grace and charm.

By completing this trek they became extraordinary women – challenging themselves physically throughout the climb and descend, overcoming their fears, letting go of their inhibitions, liberating their soul while feeling empowered with an essence of accomplishment and victory.

Leaving aside their personal and professional struggles for a day, these women trekked the hill marking a true triumph of woman power. Nature doesn’t differentiate between a man and a woman – so why should boys have all the fun!! 😉

Here are reasons why they loved the women-only trek:
  • They got the much needed “me time”
  • Each one of them said they felt awesome taking a day off to cater to their personal needs of spending time with nature.
  • They felt a new wave of self-confidence
  • Successful completion of the trek gave them an increased confidence level, they felt empowered and more excited to try some more challenging outdoor activities in the future.
  • They got to meet other women and made new friends.
  • The trek paved way for a unique bonding
  • experience between women of all age groups and helped them understand themselves and each other better.
  • They felt safe and taken care of.
  • They felt safe among the company of other women and our trek leads helped them throughout the journey.
  • We at PTU salute these adventure junkie women and we’re very happy to have successfully conducted this women-only trek and encourage other female travelers to join us in our future journeys.
If you’re a woman and are consumed by wanderlust, a wanting to hit the road, a desire to let your hair loose on the beach or conquer those mountains, passionate for solo travel or with a group then look no further!
