Have you ever been bedazzled by a glorious waterfall surrounded by enchanting countryside? Or witnessed an astounding milky white waterfall placed amidst flowers? Yes, or No, it’s time you treat yourself with an exhilarating visit to Didupe & Ermai waterfalls.
Didupe and Ermai Waterfalls are the two very mesmeric waterfalls situated in Dakshin Karnataka. Emrai is known for the beautiful surrounding it is set in with gushing waters surrounded by full of flowers, posing for a picturesque photo. The trail to Ermai waterfall is no less either- full of lush greenery. As for Didupe, the cold waters fall from magnificent heights which makes swimming in the pond quite a task. Nonetheless, the challenge is worth some effort because there’s nothing more fulfilling than standing under the water that falls from such heights. The trail to Didupe waterfalls is one you’ll remember.
These contrasting beauties are distanced at only a few kilometers from each other, yet they carry their own charm that leaves you in awe of the ecosphere that stands only a few hundred kilometers away from your city. Be assured, a trip to Didupe and Ermai waterfalls is sure to give you some good times and undoubtedly, a getaway weekend to rejuvenate after a long week at work.
Ujire, the closest town to our destination waterfalls, is about 300kms from Bangalore. The overnight bus journey starts off with a fun ice-breaker session to become acquainted with your fellow trekkers and trek leads.
A warm welcome at the homestay awaits you on the first morning of this fun-filled weekend which will be followed by some delicious vegetarian breakfast and freshening up. Once everyone is set to take on a new day of adventure, we leave for Kadamagundi. You’ll have a good few hours to connect with nature as you’ll be covering the distance on foot. The trial is rewarding enough with blue skies that seem to walk alongside you and the ecosphere around is one you’ll probably find in a calendar back at home. Perhaps, now, you can customize a calendar with an adventure of your own. Didupe falls is absolutely stunning with the magnificent height it falls from. Play around in the water until your heart is content. Again, the pond here is shallow enough to walk around in it so you don’t have to worry about swimming. Chai and coffee will then be served to give this marvellous experience a sweet end.
Soon enough, you’d have some inspiration to meet. Mr B.K Deva Rao, a paddy conservationist is an organic farmer who has been conserving over 154 varieties of paddy since about three and a half decades. He refrains from using any chemical to cultivate his crops, giving absolutely authentic and naturally grown local crops. Mr Rao is a bearer of a presidential award for practising conservation of paddy on such a large scale. Step into his farm, have a chat with the man to find out more about his old and treasured baby-paddy such as Tonnur, Narvara, Messe Bhatta, Kalame, and so many more.
Head out to view the magical sunset from the sunset peak. The sunset isn’t all that brings an overwhelming end to day one. A wholesome local vegetarian dinner which will be provided at the homestay will definitely soothe your soul.
Wake up to abundant foliage, laughter, and hot beverages. Stock up on some delicious breakfast and pump yourself up because you have another waterfall to get to! En routé Ermai waterfall!
Ermai is known for being a multi-step and multi-layered waterfall, but that’s not all. Here, you get to see the unusual- flowers and leaves growing from within their creases despite the gushing force of the waterfall on rocks. The swift pace of waterfalls makes it rather hard to have any kind of flora around it. Jump into the pond and have a ball of a time in the cold waters of Ermai with your fellow trekkers. Make sure to collect a bag full of memories and pictures. Then head back to Bangalore after having treated your mind and soul with a fun-filled weekend.
That’s an outline of the refreshing weekend at Didupe and Ermai for the wander-craving soul to go on an adventure to remember!
