About The Trip

With verdant valleys slumbering in sheets of mist and grasslands trying to run in the wind's direction, Chikmagalur feels tricky, nevertheless dauntingly pretty. To drive through the forest here is to smell the fragrance of nature. To trek in the precarious jungles is to get a glimpse of heaven. To try watersports here is to experience the thrill of silent yet roaring waters. To stay here is to feel the presence of god.

Located at the foothills of the tallest peak in Karnataka, Chikmagalur curls up a seeker in the smell of coffee estates, tropical rainforests and a favourable climate. Compared to other such prominent destinations, it doesn’t feel crowded in Chikamagalur because of the divided attention its sightseeing locations get.

Plan the Unplanned team is set to take you on a Chikmagalur tour trailing from Z-Point trek, Bababudangiri Peak, Honnamana Halla Falls, Jhari Falls, Mullayanagiri Peak, a Secret Falls, Ayyana Kere to Yagachi Backwaters. Peace-seekers, mountain lovers, laid-back vacationers – a Chikmagalur tour will satiate all your cravings. So, read the detailed itinerary and book your tickets at the earliest.

Details

We will settle in our places early in the morning and head out for the iconic Z-Point trek after breakfast. We will cover everything today in a jeep. At a distance of 5 km from Kemmanagundi and 67 km from Chikmagalur, Z Point is a mesmerising trekking spot giving you the best views of Chikmagalur. The hike is just 3 km long and starts with a thick forest section. You will come across Shanti Waterfalls midway. Fill your water bottles here, and continue. The difficulty from here is a notch up. Here, you will be crossing narrow paths and steep hills. Z-Point offers incredible views of the western ghats.

After descending, we will go to Baba Budangiri Peak. On the way back, we will visit Honnamana Halla falls, a man-made waterfall.

Our next stop is Jhari falls. It is one of the most famous waterfalls in the Chikmagalur district. Jhari waterfall, also known as Buttermilk waterfall, forms a very thin layer of water that gives it a look of buttermilk. Ultimately, we will witness the most beautiful sunset from Mullayanagiri Peak – the highest peak in Karnataka, resting at 1930 m. There is a small temple at the peak.

After spending quality time, we will return to the homestay, freshen up, and finally meet back at the dinner table for piping hot food. Taking our own sweet time, we will slowly drift into sleep.

Details

The next day, we will freshen up, have breakfast and start early. Pack your stuff and put it in the vehicle; we will not return to the homestay; we will cover some places en route and return to Bangalore.

Our first stop for Day 2 of the Chikmagalur Tour is Secret Falls. Depending on the season, weather, and rush, we will dynamically zero in on a fall. Going into the water depends on the safety of the waterfall. This decision lies in the hands of trek leaders; if they consider it safe, you can get inside, play, and click pictures. Be informed no bathrooms are available for changing clothes.

Once we are done, we will head to Ayyana Kere. Considered the second biggest lake in Karnataka, Ayyanakere Lake is one of the most sought-after attractions.

Next, we will visit Yagachi backwaters for some fun water activities. Any activity in the backwaters like Kayaking, Banana Boating, and Boating is self-sponsored.

After this, we will head towards Bangalore. Midway, we will stop for lunch (self-sponsored). You can plug into your favourite songs, dance, play games, or even sleep on the way back. Exchange numbers, talks, social media handles, and give us feedback for further improvement. We bid each other goodbyes with heavy hearts, only to meet again. We will aim for Bangalore by 10:30 pm. Your drop point will be the same as the pickup point by default. In case of any changes, let your trek leaders know.

Once you come with PTU, you are a part of the big fat family of trekkers. It's difficult to cut the conversations when we have started to open up. But that's why we have other appealing treks lined up. Until next time, care to check our itineraries and ring us soon.
