Dandeli is a small town in Uttara Karnataka situated on the banks of the river Kali. By the virtue of being a home to Mountains, Jungles and the river, Dandeli is one of the favorite getaways for adventure enthusiasts, with white water rafting being the most favoured sport. The jungles of Dandeli are also famous for being home to the big five; Elephant, Bison, Panther, Tiger and Leopard. It houses the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka and was designated as a tiger reserve in 2007. A local legend states that the city is named after Dandelappa, a local deity, a servant of the Mirashi landlords, who lost his life because of his loyalty. An alternative legend states that a king named Dandakanayaka passed through the forests and named them after himself, and the city is believed to stand on the place where Dandakaranya stood when he named the area.
Note: In case River rafting at Dandeli is not allowed or closed for any reason, we will plan a visit to Sathodi Falls and Stop by Chitradurga Fort for sunset ( only if time permits) and return Bangalore late night by around 11:30 PM ( approx )
An overnight bus journey of 450 km commences from Bangalore to Yellapur. In the bus, we shall have a brief orientation followed by a fun-filled ice-breaking session where you will get to know your fellow trippers better. Also, the trek leaders will brief about the plan for the following day of Uttara Karnataka adventure tour. Here you will get an understanding of what to expect, what to carry, and the trek information in general.
We will freshen up and have a fulfilling breakfast. Then, we will get ready for Magod falls, which is located 19 km from Yellapur. The way leading to the starting point of the falls is pretty. Enroute, we will see Kavadi Kere lake. As we arrive towards the Magod falls, the sound of water is soothing in itself. The view point offers views of river Bedti falling madly 200 feet and making a ravine at the bottom. It is an extraordinary example of the fierceness of nature. There is no way to reach the bottom of the falls.
Already feeling refreshed? Remember, this is just the start. Next, at our convenience we will trek to the secret falls.
Afterwards, we will have our lunch.
To sink it all in, on this Yellapur trip, we will let our feelings drown with the dusk. We are talking about Jenu Kallu Gudda. Sun sets in the western ghats at around 6:30, so after this glamorous red settling sunset, we will be back on the road to our homestay. At the stay, we will get ready for dinner and an exciting bonfire, where we will relive all the moments.
Note – The bonfire is subject to weather.
That is it for the day. You can go and rest in your dens.
Day 2 starts with freshening up and breakfast. The first activity of the day, as highlighted above, should be Dandeli White Water Rafting. We can bet, this one experience will remain with you for the rest of your life. After lunch, we will depart for Bangalore. We will leave Dandeli soon to reach Bangalore at 5:00 am the following day.

PTU is an excellent choice for solo and group travel. Went on a trip to Dandeli which was lead by Abilash and Prateek. The trip was very well organized and we have done lots of adventurous activities like rafting, rock climbing in the Chitradurga fort. Kudos to Abilash and Prateek for the way they have led the trip. Never felt bored even a minute during the trip.
I went on a group trip to Dandeli through plan the unplanned and the experience was truly a great one. It was very well planned and there was never a dull moment. Everything you needed was well taken care of. The trek leads abhilash and pratheek were amazing, full of energy, friendly and very helpful. They ensured that we had the time of our lives on a wonderful and safe trip. It really was an all round wonderful experience. Will definitely recommend traveling with Plan the Unplanned to all.
I recently went on a trek to dandeli through plan the unplanned (PTU). I must say it has been a wonderful experience. The trek leads know what they are doing and are always there to help us out when we get stuck. The experience with PTU and the crew has been wholesome as the whole journey was planned and executed with immense care. I hope PTU gets the reputation it deserves and hope to join them on new expeditions.
I started the year 2020 with a firm resolution of traveling places. No matter what’s the distance, time or situation. Resolved for not wasting my weekend time sitting idle at home. I was scared of going solo and pretty bad in convincing friends for planning trips. Then 1 friend told me about the concept of weekend getaways by travel organizers in Bengaluru.
Here’s where PTU (Plan the unplanned) came to my rescue. Done 4 trips to beautiful locations till date with amazing trek leaders.
Traveled Gokarna with trek leaders Rashmi, Arpita, and Lahar. Since that was my 1st Ptu trip, they explained the whole process and the way PTU works. They all were friendly and truly motivating. The beach view was awesome and I made some kewl friends. (There were 5 CAs on that outing, unexpectedly)
Traveled Kodaikanal with Trek leaders-Debasmita and Akshay. Akshay is an amazing photographer, who has also helped me reach at echo rock point without any fear. Debasmita taught me how to climb the rock and the importance of physical fitness in trekking.
Traveled wayanad with trek leaders Shashi and Sahil. The entire trek was fun especially the night trek and jeep ride.
Traveled dandeli and Chitradurga fort with trek leaders Deeksha, Medha, and Murali. while 1st time rafting gave me thrills and chills but hiking at Chitradurga fort was the best in all. All thanks to Medha and Deeksha for making it possible for me to reach the top.
