If you are a person who loves to challenge their mind and body, the Kumara Parvatha trek is perfect for you! It is considered one of the more difficult treks in the South. But there’s no gain without some pain, so get ready to push yourself a little bit and we will be there to motivate you along the way till the top. Reach the top to witness the beautiful clouds along with the green landscapes of the Western ghats.
A landscape filled with lush green, pristine streams, volcanic rock formations, Kumara Parvata is a place in the bucket list of every trekker and traveler. It is the second highest peak after Tadiyanmol in the Coorg region. Trekking in summers can sometimes get too tiring and sweaty, but the tall trees of the dense forests of the Western ghats provide a natural umbrella shielding you from the harsh rays of the sun, letting you enjoy and experience the best of nature. We will be ascending through the Somwarpet side and descending through the Kukke Subramanya temple, letting you experience the beauty of both the trails.
Following are the pick-up points & timings:
An overnight bus journey of 300 km commences from Bangalore to Somwarpet. We shall have a brief orientation followed by a fun-filled ice-breaking session where you will get to know your fellow trekkers better.
After a night-long bus journey, we reach Somwarpet in the morning. We will head over to the homestay to freshen up for the long and exciting day ahead. Put your trekking gear on, have a delicious breakfast and get ready to start the trek!
We start our trek from the Beedihalli side, which is the lesser-explored trek route! Once we reach the Beedihalli APC, the Kumara Parvata peak is at a 7kms distance! The forest checkpoint is where you get fresh water, so fill up your water bottles and start walking towards the top! As we cross the beautiful bridge which leads us to the other side of the stream, you enter into the beautiful jungle of Coorg! There is a gradual increase in the altitude of the trek as you wander deeper into the forest. Even on a hot day, you wouldn’t feel the sun rays burning your skin, as the tall trees provide an excellent cover. There are signboards on the way, so that you don’t get lost. You will find many small streams on the way, which is at its utmost beauty during the monsoons! The last 1.5kms is covered with huge volcanic rock formations which might get a little challenging to climb. Once you reach the summit, you’ll notice two temples with a flag on top of each. As the Kumara Parvata is not a steep mountain, you can see the vast plateau of the Western ghats.
After enjoying the view of the summit and chilling for a while, we will start the descent towards BhattaraMane with a pit stop at Sheesha Parvath, where you get a bird’s eye view of the mountains ahead of you. Enjoy the lunch with a view and spend time admiring the beauty. Descend down further to the campsite, learn to pitch your tents and get comfortable on the mountains! Watch the sky turn into different shades as the sunsets. Have dinner and then retire for the night.
Wake up early, un-pitch your tents, freshen up and have a good breakfast as we will be further descending down the Kumara Parvata. We start the descent by 7AM towards the Kukke Subramanya base. As we reach back down, we will head over to the Kukke Subramanya temple to gather some blessings from the god and admire the holy spot.
After visiting the temple, we shall get back on the bus. Even though the trek has ended, we still have a couple of hours more to finish the trip. Enjoy the bus ride back with fun games and interesting conversations with fellow passengers.
We will be back to the busy hustling city of Bangalore by 10.00PM.

Oshin carried so much energy through out the trek. Finally people in the team are amazing ,got good memories with each & everyone. Looking forward to have more treks with PTU again.
This was my 2nd trip with PTU. We went to Kumar Parvatha with Ajay and piyush as PTU leaders. While first trip with PTU to gokarna was entertaining but this trip to KP was more enjoyable. Leaders are very helpful and friendly. Ajay and piyush made sure that we were ok and complete the one of the hardest trek in karnataka. While piyush leaded us from front, Ajay made sure that no one left behind. Thank you PTU for organizing such events. Thank you Ajay and Piyush.
I had a memorable experience during my kumaraparvatha trek with plan the unplanned. Although it is a difficult trek, they made it easy with good planning and guidance. But the view at the top of kp will be cherished in my memory for a long time. I recommend everyone to try out this adventure trek with plan the unplanned.
