Dandeli is a small town in North Karnataka situated on the banks of the river Kali. By the virtue of being a home to Mountains, Jungles and the river, Dandeli is one of the favorite getaways for adventure enthusiasts, with white water rafting being the most favoured sport. The jungles of Dandeli are also famous for being home to the big five; Elephant, Bison, Panther, Tiger and Leopard. It houses the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka and was designated as a tiger reserve in 2007. A local legend states that the city is named after Dandelappa, a local deity, a servant of the Mirashi landlords, who lost his life because of his loyalty. An alternative legend states that a king named Dandakanayaka passed through the forests and named them after himself, and the city is believed to stand on the place where Dandakaranya stood when he named the area.
The overnight journey starts from Bengaluru around 9 PM. Once everyone is aboard, the trek leads will make you participate in some activities to get over with the residual office thoughts. The fun sessions involve getting to know the trek group who will become your buddies throughout the trip. Of course, even after doing all of that, we know how important sleep is for you to enjoy the trip so consider that taken care of.
Wake up to the beautiful and dense greenery of the Jungles & the songs of birds of the Kali Tiger Reserve. A short drive later from Dandeli town with a road passing through pepper & coconut trees, you will reach the homestay.
After freshening up, having a refreshing breakfast and packing the necessary things for trek and rafting, we head to Syntheri Rock by bus. The trek is around 4 km to and fro. Get familiar with the various types of rocks while walking through the dense jungle. The end of the trek is a beautiful Kaneri River (A small part of Kali River).
Post the activities, have a self-sponsored lunch and get ready for thrilling water adventure i.e. Rafting. Make sure you reach the Rafting base point by 2 PM as the reporting time for rafting is 2 PM.
Get the thrilling experience of white water rafting which is said to be the best water rafting in Karnataka (5 Km, 1-1.5 Hours). Rafting depends on the water level and amount of water coming from the dam. In case the water level is too high for rafting, we’ll replace the Rafting with other water activities.
Reach the backwater part of the trip and enjoy the shades of orange while the sun sets over the landscape filled with mountains and the river.
Get up in the morning, freshen up and have breakfast.
Start back to Bangalore with a pitstop at Chitradurga city and have self-sponsored lunch on the way. While in Chitradurga, Chitradurga fort is a must visit, which can be reached via a short hike.( Chitradurga Fort is a fortification that straddles several hills and a peak overlooking a flat valley in the Chitradurga town. The fort’s name Chitrakaldurga means ‘picturesque fort’ in Kannada, is the namesake of the town Chitradurga and its administrative district and a beautiful spot to witness the sunset.)

I started the year 2020 with a firm resolution of traveling places. No matter what’s the distance, time or situation. Resolved for not wasting my weekend time sitting idle at home. I was scared of going solo and pretty bad in convincing friends for planning trips. Then 1 friend told me about the concept of weekend getaways by travel organizers in Bengaluru.
Here’s where PTU (Plan the unplanned) came to my rescue. Done 4 trips to beautiful locations till date with amazing trek leaders.
Traveled Gokarna with trek leaders Rashmi, Arpita, and Lahar. Since that was my 1st Ptu trip, they explained the whole process and the way PTU works. They all were friendly and truly motivating. The beach view was awesome and I made some kewl friends. (There were 5 CAs on that outing, unexpectedly)
Traveled Kodaikanal with Trek leaders-Debasmita and Akshay. Akshay is an amazing photographer, who has also helped me reach at echo rock point without any fear. Debasmita taught me how to climb the rock and the importance of physical fitness in trekking.
Traveled wayanad with trek leaders Shashi and Sahil. The entire trek was fun especially the night trek and jeep ride.
Traveled dandeli and Chitradurga fort with trek leaders Deeksha, Medha, and Murali. while 1st time rafting gave me thrills and chills but hiking at Chitradurga fort was the best in all. All thanks to Medha and Deeksha for making it possible for me to reach the top.
